3....2.....1....

3 things i learned
  1. I learned about how imperialism and colonialism affected India and Europe.
  2. I learned about how African Lands became European Colonies and helped out Europe.
  3. I learned about the different ways that parent lands can control a colony!
2 Interesting facts

  1. I found it interesting that the rifle cartridges where used with pork.
  2. i found it interesting that the Suez Canal was built during this time.

1 Question i still have!

  1. Did they use the pork on the Cartridges on purpose to keep the Sepoys from using them?

Mohandas!

Be the change that you want to see in the world.

This means that you should be how you want the world to be, and not just say you want it to be this way or that way, and actually show how you want it to be.

I agree 100% with what Mohandas said! There are too many people just saying this is how it should be when they are not showing how it should be done with their actions. I believe that actions really do speak louder than words, and thats what this quote is all about, Do so that people may follow!

The Suez Canal!

The Suez Canal is owned and maintained by the Suez Canal Authority under the Arab Republic of Egypt. The canal allows passage of ships up to 66 feet draft or 240,000 tons and up to a maximum height of 223 ft above water level and a maximum beam of 254 ft under certain conditions. Some supertankers are too large to traverse the canal. Others can offload part of their cargo onto a canal-owned boat to reduce their draft, transit, and reload at the other end of the canal. The Canal lost some use while the threat of piracy was higher in the Canal. The Canal is used for oil tankers to transport Crude oil. It matters a lot, it saves ships time and money, which would reflect in the gas prices in americas economy. Almost 50 ships pass through the canal daily and it takes about 11-16 hours ro pass through. the ships need to use slow speeds so the waves wont erode at the shores.

Sepoy Rebellion!

The economic problems continued for the Indians, and their feelings of nationalism and resentment. In 1857, word spread through the Indian soldiers that the cartridges of their new rifles were sealed with beef and pork fat, and to use these cartridges the soldiers had to bite off the seal. Both Hindus, and muslims, who do not eat pork, where angered by the news! 85 of 90 the Indian Soldiers refused to use the new cartridges, the soldiers who disobeyed where jailed. the next day the Indian soldiers rebelled, fierce fighting took place. Both British soldiers and Indian soldiers tried to slaughter each others armies. The East India Company took more than a year to take over the country, the British sent troops to help them. The indians could not unite against the british, due to weak leadership and serious split between Hindus and Muslims.

Economic Imperialism!

Economic Imperialism is where a certain company gets specific rights to operate in the colony without interaction with a controlling government. Dole Fruit used this policy in Hawaii to get their hands on certain fruits that grow better in Hawaii than in other parts of America or the world. The positives to operating under this policy is that there is no government control over Dole. The negatives to this policy are that Hawaii will develop a bad economy.

How it helps, and how it hurts!

Imperialism helped the world because it created crops that people need, it created more cotton, tea, and other goods that the world relied on to survive. It also helped by generating more money for everyone around the world, the money flow helped the world economy. It also helped the colonies because they may not have had the government needed to thrive in the world. It hurt the World because those same colonies where making the goods everyone needed, but they didnt make the food that they needed to be self dependent. The colonies where also oppressed and didnt have the rights they needed creating turmoil. The imperialism also broke up traditional industry.

The Germ Theory!

A very important breakthrough in medicine was the Germ Theory of Disease. It was developed by French chemist Louis Pasteur in the mid 1800s. While examining the fermentation process of alcohol, Pasteur discovered that it was caused by by microscopic organisms he called bacteria. He also learned that heat killed these bacteria and the led him to discover the pasteurization to kill germs in liquids such as Milk. soon it became clear that the bacteria caused diseases.

The Electric Car!

Edison believed that Cars should be powered by electricity! In 1899 Edison began developing and Alkaline storage battery that would give the cars power. In 1900, 28 percent of the 4000 cars in america ran on electricity. His main goal was to create a battery that could run for 100 miles without recharging. He gave up on his goal because of the abundance of gas made an electric car not needed. His batteries however became his most profitable invention, used in Miners headlamps, Railroad signs, Henry Ford also used the batteries in the Model T.
