Edison believed that Cars should be powered by electricity! In 1899 Edison began developing and Alkaline storage battery that would give the cars power. In 1900, 28 percent of the 4000 cars in america ran on electricity. His main goal was to create a battery that could run for 100 miles without recharging. He gave up on his goal because of the abundance of gas made an electric car not needed. His batteries however became his most profitable invention, used in Miners headlamps, Railroad signs, Henry Ford also used the batteries in the Model T.
